16U Champs at the Rock in Franklin, WI

On Sunday our 16U mens team became the champions of the Game Day USA Cheesehead Championship. Pool play for the Cougars began with a 15 to 3 defeat at the hands of the Illinois Crush. The Cougars mustered only 4 hits as opposed to the Crush's 16. Shaking the rust off the Cougars completed pool play with a solid 9 - 6 win over the Midothian Braves. AJ Parnell got the win for the Cougars. He allowed four runs over five innings. He struck out five, walked four and surrendered five hits. The game also featured a 3-run home run from Connor Gwaltney. Bracket play for the Cougars began with another match-up against the braves. The Cougars prevailed with a 9 - 6 victory. In the semifinals the Cougars matched up against the Lakeside Legends. The Cougars took the game 6 to 4. Zach Pflum racked up three RBIs on two hits for Cougars 16u. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning. Matt Crandall got the win for the Cougars. He allowed four runs over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered four hits. The finals featured a match-up and against the Illinois Crush and this time the determined Cougars came out on tops with a 11-8 victory.
