The Cougars 12U Red baseball team had a nice Independence Day weekend in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, reaching the semifinals and blasting 49 hits in 4 games. The Cougars defeated the Lincolnshire Lightning 11-6 in the preliminary game, when Patrick McConnell homered and had 3 RBI. Evan Mendiola collected 2 hits in the second game, an 8-1 loss. In the quarterfinal game, the Cougars upset the Lake County Lightning 8-7, after scoring 2 in the top of the final inning. Evan Mendiola hit a solo home run to tie the game, after which Jack Lonergan hit a dramatic, two-out, game-winning, solo home run to centerfield. Henry Duda also homered in the quarterfinal game and had two hits in the semifinal game, in which the Cougars banged out 11 hits. Jack Connell homered in the semifinal contest, driving in 2.
